| When the commitment of an organisation is to
value people's knowledge and build its work on their confidence, the need
to explore various tools of expression through which people can communicate
with the outside world. Because the outside world is a reality and their
necessity to communicate with it is also a reality. In this effort, literacy
was not the only choice. Literacy could actually become a constraint for
non-literate people whose aural and visual narratives are so powerful.
So the Deccan Development Society has provided video and audio technologies
as a means of expression for the disadvantaged rural women and equipped
a group of over fifteen women with the skills to handle this media. And
thus the Community Media Trust was born in 1998. Here are some of the
videos shot edited, dubbed, mixed partially by the rural women -Narsamma,
Manjula, Punniamma, Kavitha, Sakuntala, Mullamma, Laxamma, Sangamma and
Yesu. Till date they have shot over 100 films. [See the list of their
