If you are using Windows XP, you need not worry about anything. WMV was made for XP.

Otherwise download and install Windows Media Player (version 6.4 for Win95 and version 7.1 for Win98/Me/2000) to view *.wmv video files. The player does not contain the Windows Media 8 codec. You can either have it downloaded every time you watch a movie or install the codec.
